assalamualaikum

assalamuaikum..
i've been saying this phrase since i was a kid but i just come to understand the meaning, just recently. i've never wonder why we have to say it because i thought that, it is what we have to say every time entering a muslim home. This is where i'm wrong.

Assalamualaikum means please be upon you or in malay it is salam sejahtera ke atas kamu. It is a phrase that we say when we greet our muslim brothers and sisters and this doesn't apply to the people that we only know but it is best to say it to anyone that is muslim because we are all brothers and sisters. If you greet assalamualaikum and smile to me, i would feel at ease and secure. okay...i guess now you're confused, what does it have to do with ease and secure? Let's just imagine that i'm running some errands at a supermarket and while i was picking my vegetable, there is a nice muslim lady greets me assalamualaikum plus with a warm smile. Then, something embarassing happened. I am short of 50 cent! The cashier is already anxious, waiting for my money and then i saw the muslim lady who greeted me just a few minutes ago. In desperate time like that, i would bring my thick face and ask a small favour from her (in this case it's 50 cent!) and the lady helped me. Why do you think i cry for help from her and not other people at the supermarket?

I''m not saying that you can simply ask money from your muslim brothers and sisters just because you greets them (unless if you have extremely thick face!). It is easier to ask for help when you're out and alone.

The last thing i want to add is one of the early signs of kiamat is when you greet assalamualaikum to the people that you only know(family and friends) and another reminder is PLEASE SAY IT PROPERLY not samekom or salamelekom. It wouldn't have the same meaning.

okay..enough blabbing..off to study =)

Assalamualaikum..
